More Room Please
The couple enjoyed raising their 3 children in their home on a large tract that had room for pet goats and horses. But as the kids grew, gatherings with family & friends felt increasingly crowded.
More room was added at the busiest spots: kitchen & living room. The kitchen bump-out doubled the cabinetry & counter space. The living room bump-out allowed for more space in the middle of the room, where space mattered most.
To stay within budget, the higher cost of adding space was balanced with a mix of strategy & lesser cost materials : no interior changes, plastic laminate counters, stock cabinetry & vinyl floors. Nevertheless, "green" features include upgraded insulation, recessed flourescent lights, cement-fiber siding and well-placed low-e windows that reward with views, natural ventilation & light.
